She…

I

When suddenly it rained petals she was not surprised
by their colors, shapes, or intensities; of them she said
“I am of you and together we are beautiful”.

With her hands and face raised – she felt the cascade of
their blush caress first her cheek and then her palms with
elegant ways to feel about memory.

And she said “Shall I stand here an eternity or proceed
from this desert – enter a city, and be taught by a crone
something about dignity?”

II

When suddenly it rained petals she was not surprised
that the garden began singing grandmother songs about
long ago wells of pure water meant for healing.

And the bit of apple stuck in her throat began moving
upwards through layer upon layer of silence until she was
finally able to add her voice to a harmony.

And she said “Shall I stand here an eternity the way I
have always been or proceed to the city and act
according to my destiny…”

III

When suddenly it rained petals she was not surprised
to discover a fullness within her breast that helped her
realize that she was amazing.

That perhaps a voice, one like hers, might have an effect
on the chaos generated and perpetrated by men, one being
a man she wouldn’t call her father.

And she said “Shall I stand here an eternity in this desert
or begin dancing toward the city? Perhaps I am remarkable
enough after all – a woman in the making…”

  1. Ineffable. Beautiful and mysterious. A gorgeous piece of surrealism in which the meaning drifts behind the words like the the petals.
